1.Language [新题]
1)What languages can you speak?
My mother tongue(母语) is Sichuanese (四川方言). Later when I went to school I studied more Mandarin(普通话) and picked up(学会) English, now I’m fluent in(流畅使用) English, I think. Aside from these, I can speak German and Finnish, but they are a bit rusty (生疏的).
2)What languages would you like to learn in the future?
Ummm, perhaps Spanish? I like the way they roll their “R”(卷舌发“r”的音), very rounded (圆润饱满的)and smooth(流畅的). And it’s also a widely spoken language(被广泛使用的语言), which may help me when I travel to South America and Spain I suppose.
2.Ice cream [新题]
1)Do you like ice cream?
Yeah, sure I do. Especially chocolate-flavoured(巧克力味儿的) popsicles(冰棍), they are heavenly(绝妙的), like, rich(浓郁) and velvety(丝绒一般的).
2)Did you eat ice cream when you were a child?
Yes!! When I was a child, in summer, if I had 1RMB per day as pocket money(零花钱), I would spend it all on those yogurt-flavoured (酸奶味儿的)popsicles (冰棒), I just couldn’t have enough.
3)Are there shops selling ice cream near the place where you live?
Yeah, there are many of them, some are even whole-sale(批发) places, like, if you buy more than 10 ice creams, you get 25% off or something(可以表达语气的词,类似于中文的“吧”、“之类的吧”).
4)Can you make ice cream yourself?
Not really ice cream, I tried to whip cream(搅打奶油) and freeze(冻) it for 2 hours or something, but it tasted nothing like ice cream(吃起来完全不像). I did make some frozen blue berries or yogurt or things like that, they are just as great(一样的好吃).
3.Rain [新题]
1)Do you like rainy days?
Nope, absolutely not. Rainy days would make the air smell earthy(有泥土气味的) and...ummm mouldy(有霉味的), and it always feels damp(湿冷), so I always feel really moody(情绪化) and grumpy(坏脾气的).
2)Does it rain much in your city?
I guess so, it rains quite a lot(降水蛮多的), especially in summer, actually it was pouring down(下瓢泼大雨) last night! But most of the time, it doesn’t rain much during daytime, thank goodness. Otherwise it would be a nightmare(噩梦) if you are a commuter(通勤者)! You know, it’ll get really congested (拥堵的)and muddy(泥泞的) and everything...
3)Would you like to live in a place that is dry or wet?
Perhaps, I would love to live in a place that is relatively dry(相对干燥的), definitely not in dessert or somewhere like that...Simply because it feels more comfortable, and you won’t feel sticky(黏黏的) and hot in summer, like a...like a chicken in an oven(像个烤箱里的鸡)!
4.Bags [新题]
1)Do you usually carry a bag?
Yeah, sure, on my work days, I always carry my backpack(双肩背包) with me, to carry all my belongings like laptop, drinking bottle, books, power bank, hand cream and things like that. It’s part of me (是我的一部分了).
2)What kinds of bags do you like to carry?
Backpacks(双肩包), especially those with many big and small pockets to categorize(分类) my things. I’m not a big fan of cross-body bags (斜挎包)or shoulder bags (单肩包) simply because they can damage my spine(伤害脊椎), you know, when your bag is heavy, you would lower your shoulder on that side...
3)Do you change your bags often?
Not really, I’ve been using this bag for like, 5 years maybe? Though it’s torn and worn(破损的), it’s still usable. But I am looking forward to something that can “spice it up” a bit(增加点趣味), you know, make me more like an office lady, maybe a genuine leather backpack(背包)? But it would get too heavy and would weigh me down(让我觉得很沉).
5.Fixing things [new]
1)Can you fix things?
Yeah, sure, and I’m pretty good, especially if we are talking about things that can be glued back together(可粘合的东西). I can be really patient when I do those things, but when it comes to broken devices, sorry, I just can’t.
2)Did anybody teach you to fix things when you were a child?
My mom taught me, roughly(粗糙地), how to fix ripped trousers(扯坏的裤子),and my dad showed me how to use raw egg white(生蛋清) as super glue(超级胶水) to fix chinaware(瓷器).
3)Do you think it is necessary for people to learn to fix things?
Yeah, I think so, because it’s such a throw-away society(抛弃型社会)where people just get rid of(丢掉、摆脱掉) things that are “not working well”, and they simply buy a new one, which is convenient but not sustainable(可持续的) or eco-friendly(环保的).
4)What do you do when a thing is broken and cannot be fixed?
Most probably I would just trow it away, and get a new one...But, maybe, sometimes, I would reuse(重复使用) them, when they don’t cause any risks (造成风险)like cutting your fingers(划伤手指) like broken glass does...For example I always wear torn and worn(破破烂烂的) T shirts as pajamas(睡衣)!
6.Wild Animals [new]
1)Are there wild animals in your country?
Yeah, not only pandas, we have many species(物种) in the wild, like birds, reptiles(爬行动物), rodents(啮齿动物)...But they are rarely seen...I suppose it has something to do with (与...相关)the expansion (拓张)of human civilization(人类文明)...
2)Have you ever been to a zoo or a safari park(游猎/野生动物园)?
Yes, I’ve been to several kinds of zoos, not only in China but also in other countries. To be honest, most of the time I felt depressed(压抑的、抑郁的) and even angry to see animals trapped(被困) in small, empty cages with concrete floor(水泥地板), nowhere to hide, nowhere to play. They may suffer from(遭受) some mental disorders(心理疾患).
3)What is the animal you would like to see in the wild?
Bumblebees(熊蜂)! They melted my heart(融化了我的心) years ago, when I saw them buzzing(发出嗡嗡声), flying, swirling(旋转着) in a garden of roses on campus. They are probably the most adorable (可爱的)bugs you can possibly see in our world. They have chubby(胖嘟嘟的) hairy(毛茸茸的) bodies, they are just like flying little balls of fur(小毛球).
4)Are there TV programs about wild animals in your country?
Yeah sure, we have many documentaries(纪录片) about wild animals, I remember when I was a child, I used to watch this one about lions in Africa, how they hunt(狩猎) together as a group, how they lie on rocks, taking a nap(打瞌睡)...
