我们在阅读英语原版书或报刊杂志时，经常看到插入语的使用，在写作中也是比较常用的。插入语是在一个句子中间插入一个词、短语、从句或短句，这个插入成分通常被逗号、破折号或括号与其它部分隔开，且不与其它部分产生语法上的关系，那么英语写作中常见的插入语有哪些？
接下来，我们通过六个相关的例子来了解英语中常见的几种插入成分：
例1: 介词短语或副词作插入成分
Gottman,among other researchers, discovered a similar effect in child-rearing.
插入位置：主语和谓语动词之间补充说明一定的范畴，程度等。
类似的介词短语还有：for most people, in my opinion, in general, in a sense, to a large extent, to my disappointment等
副词的插入与它颇为相似，如：however, luckily, indeed等
例2：插入形容词或形容词短语
He was（strange as it seems）an excellent sportsman.
插入位置：be动词后表示补充说明表达说话人的情感、态度
插入成分：形容词短语
类似的还有：strange to say；most important of all；sure enough; worse still; true；needless to say等
例3：插入具体的名词列举
Everything in life comes from practice. No matter how small or inconsequential we think it is, everything we do, from brushing our teeth to getting through a scary job interview, comes from practice.
插入位置：主句中的主语和谓语动词之间，插入内容是对everything we do的具体举例、说明
插入成分：介词短语from…to …
类似的引导列举的短语还有：
Such as… ; ranging from…to…; ranging from small things like… to bigger things like…; be it…or ，Either…or…等等，通常在句子中
例4：插入状语从句
It has become conventional wisdom that the path to excellence—no matter whether you’re a surgeon looking to hone your craft or a teacher looking for help with classroom management —is paved with hours and hours of practice.
插入成分：no matter引导的让步状语从句no matter whether…or 相当于whether…or
类似可以作为插入的状语有：if/although/when等引导的状语
例5: 插入非谓语成分（现在分词，过去分词，不定式）
America added 379,000 jobs to the payroll in February, exceeding analysts’ expectations, as its vaccination drive progressed, social-distancing restrictions eased and many businesses reopened.
插入成分：非谓语：exceeding analysts’ expectations
例6：插入短句
Choosing to empathize—at its heart it is simply a choice—is so powerful it can change the developing nervous systems of infants whose parents regularly practice it.
插入位置：主谓之间，增加短句起补充说明作用
插入成分：介词短语提前的部分倒装句
类似的短句插入：
I hope (我希望)，I’m afraid(恐怕)， What’s worse(更糟的是)，he says, they may argue等
